About

I'm Maxine Ivey – I am a builder and creator of curated experiences, spaces and artifacts, committed to redesigning public institutional spaces that underserve communities of color. I focus on spatial justice to create environments that serve diverse populations equitably, challenging the default of a blind “average or normal” standard in design.

We all deserve beauty in our lives, it makes us feel our full value as people and our connection to the human collective. I contribute to lifting up people regardless of their background. I create spaces for individuals in our society who have been overlooked in design processes when it comes to the spaces that we inhabit every day.

Design as a discipline has an inevitable ripple effect on its users and it's up to the designer to choose to intentionally include stakeholders and think beyond the conventions of society's institutions. Ultimately, through my work I want people to feel accepted and affirmed in their everyday spaces, whether that looks like a workshop for learning, a physical space they inhabit or an art exhibit they digest.

How I Work

As a multi-hyphenate artist I bring a unique skillset and creative perspective.

I am passionate about efficient workflows and strategies to produce high quality, impactful work not just for myself but for every team I am on. This manifests in my ability to bring organization and ambition to every project, to manage professional client relations, and provide creative leadership through strong facilitation of group dynamics.

My wide range of experiences, skills, interests and software proficiencies makes me a big picture thinker and allows me to assess new situations quickly to determine an efficient path to completion.
